Nashville Predators goaltender Chris Mason was named third star of the week (Oct. 3-7) for his two outstanding performances to start the 2007-08 season. The NHL names its top players of the week in the “Three Stars” format – Colorado’s Paul Stastny was first star and Mike Comrie of the New York Islanders was the second-star selection.
Mason stopped 63-of-64 shots in Nashville’s opening-week contests against Colorado and Dallas, earning him a 0.50 goals against average and .984 save percentage – best among goalies playing at least two games. This included the Red Deer, Alberta native’s ninth career shutout in Thursday’s 4-0 victory over the Avalanche, and a 28-save effort Saturday in a 5-1 rout of the Stars.
Mason and the rest of the Predators return to action Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Blues at 7:30 CT. The game will be televised on FSN South, in addition to being available on the radio at WGFX 104.5 The Zone.
The Preds next home game is the following night, Thursday, Oct. 11, when they host the Wayne Gretzky-led Phoenix Coyotes at the Sommet Center (7 p.m. CT). Tickets for this game are still available by calling (615) 770-PUCK, logging onto nashvillepredators.com or ticketmaster.com and by visiting the Sommet Center box office.
