NYI-W (4)

The Nashville Predators finished a perfect back-to-back road trip and completed the season sweep of the New York Islanders with a 4-1 victory at UBS Center on Friday.
Kevin Lankinen was stellar in the Predators net, making a career-high 48 saves in the win.
Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi and Matt Duchene were the three stars on offense, combining for both of Nashville's goals on the power play in the first two periods before Duchene scored his 300th career NHL goal on the empty net in the third. Mikael Granlund added an empty-netter of his own, with Mattias Ekholm dishing out his 200th career assist.
The Preds, fresh off an overtime win over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, improved to 12-9-2 on the season with Friday's win.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Filip Scoresberg
Forsberg opened the scoring at 14:18 of the first period with a one-timer on a pass from Duchene to give the Preds an early 1-0 lead. Forsberg's tally was Nashville's first power-play goal since Nov. 21 vs. Arizona.

With an assist on Josi's goal in the second period, Forsberg extended his team lead in points to 21 (8g-13a). He is now 10 points from becoming the third player in Predators history to reach the 500-point milestone.
Two for the Captain
Nashville's second goal of the night also came on the man advantage when Josi fired a slapshot past Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin to extend Nashville's lead to 2-0 at 8:22 of the second period.

With two points (1g-1a) on the night, Josi moved one point closer to passing David Legwand for the most in franchise history. Josi (562) needs four points to tie Legwand (566) and five to pass him.
Dutchy's Dealing
Duchene assisted on both of Nashville's goals in the first two periods for his 14th and 15th assists of the season. He has racked up five points (1g-5a) in his last three games. While he has been thriving as a set-up man of late, Duchene buried the empty-netter for goal No. 300 of his NHL career.

The Lank Ness Monster
Lankinen made a career-high 48 saves in net for the Predators in his first start since Nov. 23. It was his first victory since Nov. 3, when he made 29 saves in a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames before picking up losses in his next two starts (Nov. 10 at Colorado and Nov. 23 at Detroit).

THEY SAID IT

Forsberg on completing the perfect back-to-back road trip:
"It was great. We obviously knew we were in for a tough challenge. The Devils have been obviously the hardest team in the last little bit and the Islanders are always a tough game, especially here in this building. So, it was a great test for our group and we answered the bell."
Forsberg on Lankinen's 48-save performance:
"It's the only reason we're having this interview happy. Obviously, he was unbelievable for us, especially in the third, but even through the whole game. I don't know how many saves he had in the third, but it was probably 20 almost just in the third period. I mean, we have the two best goalies in the League."
Forsberg on Matt Duchene's 300th career goal:
"It's awesome. That's a lot of goals. It's just one of those things that you obviously have to be a really good player first of all to be in the League for long enough to do that. And he's been awesome for us since he got here and I'm very happy for him."
Matt Duchene on Kevin Lankinen's performance:
"He's the first star of the game by far. The first two periods were pretty even. They had a few more shots because of power plays. But it was pretty even, there was no room out there. Nobody really had the puck. It was a very mucky game. And then in the third they threw the kitchen sink at us and Lankinen stood tall and we were able to recover on second pucks and rebounds for him. So, he was outstanding and he was our MVP today."
Matt Duchene on capitalizing on the power play:
"I thought right before we scored that it was a little mucky, but we battled and kept pucks alive and we were working and we got a couple of good looks because of it. We got a faceoff and a seam opened up and I was able to find Fil, so that was big for us. It was nice too that coach left us out there. We had a little bit of momentum and it was over a minute and you usually want to get the other unit out there, but we were doing some good things, so it was nice that he relied on us there and we got it done."
Coach Hynes on capitalizing on the power play:
"I thought the power play was good. We capitalized and that's what you have to do and that's what we expect of that group. They're such a capable group of guys. But I thought even on the first power play goal, it was a beautiful seam pass play but it was a result of puck recovery and battles and winning possession of the puck to keep it in the offensive zone to be able to get to that skill. And then obviously on the five-on-three, that's something we had talked about, was being more of a shooting threat on the five-on-three. And it was a nice play back to Josi and Josi did a good job finding the shot lane to get through."
Coach Hynes on Kevin Lankinen's performance:
"Kevin was great. I thought he played really well. He's just kind of picked up where he's left off. He's been really solid for us and he helps us be in positions to be able to win games. He was exceptional down the stretch in this game. So, it's good to see him performing the way he's performing this year, night in and night out. And then it's nice to see him get rewarded after losing his last two starts. And he earned it. They had a really good push in the third period and he made some big saves for us, but that's what he does. That's one of the reasons why we acquired him. He's a guy that works really hard. He's extremely fit, he takes care of himself and he's ready to play. So, even though Juice gets the majority of the games, when Kevin comes in, you can see the hard work that he puts in because he's ready to perform when called upon."
