Hugh Lombardi, Sommet Center Nominated for 2008 Pollstar Awards

(Nashville, TN – December 3, 2008) The Sommet Center has been nominated for the 2008 Pollstar Concert Industry Arena of the Year Award. Sommet Center, home of the Nashville Predators, is among seven other arenas that have been nominated for this international honor. Other arenas nominated are Madison Square Garden, (New York, NY); Staples Center (Los Angeles, CA); American Airlines Center (Dallas, TX); Bank Atlantic Center (Sunrise, FL); Palace of Auburn Hills (Auburn Hills, MI); Sprint Center (Kansas City, MO) and Xcel Energy Center (St. Paul, MN).

Pollstar has conducted this awards event for 19 years. This is the fifth nomination overall and second straight for the Sommet Center. The 20th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards Ceremony will take place January 30, 2009 in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater.

Pollstar Magazine focuses primarily on the concert industry and also reports on news regarding sports and entertainment. The nominating committee is made up of industry leaders in all facets of the entertainment business; arena managers, artists, artist managers, agents and promoters from across the country and abroad. Winner of the award is determined by the international readership of Pollstar.

In addition, Sommet Center General Manager Hugh Lombardi has been nominated for Facility Executive of the Year. “To be nominated for Arena of the Year for the second year in a row is recognition of our staff’s commitment to create a great experience for artists and performers as well as guests, especially to be in the same company with the other nominees,” said Lombardi. “And to be nominated for Facility Executive of the Year is humbling. I am fortunate to be associated with colleagues of many talents and skills with an intense dedication to making things happen the right way in Music City.”

Sommet Center opened in December 1996. The facility has hosted over 11 million guests for such events as the NCAA Men’s Basketball Regional Tournament, SEC and OVC Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament, as well as entertainers such as Garth Brooks, Elton John and Billy Joel, Rolling Stones, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Martina McBride. The Sommet Center has been the home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators since 1998.
