The Nashville Predators are set to begin another back-to-back set, and it starts tonight in Chicago against the Blackhawks. The Friday night contest will be the fourth of five meetings between the Central Division rivals this season; the Preds are 2-1-0 against the Hawks, including a 5-2 victory at the United Center on Jan. 9.
Their last outing was a disappointing loss for the Predators on Tuesday night against Carolina, after they had won three straight for the first time since October, including a home-and-home sweep of the Blues. However, after a day of meetings on Wednesday and then a productive practice on Thursday, the Preds are feeling confident once more as they enter a crucial weekend right prior to the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline on Monday.
"The belief is high, and it's another big weekend for us," Preds Captain Roman Josi said. "A back-to-back [that starts with us] playing a Central Division team is important. And like we talked about after the Blues games, one game doesn't really carry into the next one. We've got to make sure we're ready for [tonight]. It's a different game, a different opponent, so there definitely needs to be a response."

The Predators could also receive some welcome help on the blue line tonight in the form of Ryan Ellis. Nashville's associate captain, who has missed the past 20 games due to injury, could be back in the lineup against the Blackhawks.
Ellis participated fully in Thursday's practice and skated alongside Josi. He also logged some work on the power play, both positive signs a return could be imminent.
"We wanted to push him today in practice and put him on a D-pair and play in the situations he could possibly play in," Preds Head Coach John Hynes said of Ellis following Thursday's practice. "[We gave] him a really good look on the power play, and then we had a little bit of some battle drills in there. We'll see how he responds [today] and probably make a decision [this] morning."
Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson were reunited on a forward line during Thursday's practice, while Matt Duchene centered Calle Jarnkrok and Mikael Granlund. Jarred Tinordi remained with Mattias Ekholm on the backend, while Dante Fabbro and Dan Hamhuis were also together once more.

Last Time Out:
Johansen tallied the lone goal for the Preds during Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Carolina with Juuse Saros in net. Josi continues to lead the club with 57 points, followed by Forsberg with 40 points and Duchene with 38. Forsberg has 18 goals on the season, while Nick Bonino and Craig Smith have 17 goals apiece. In just 39 games this season, Ellis has six goals and 28 points from the backend.
The Opposition:
Like the Predators, the Blackhawks are hoping to find their way into a playoff spot, but Chicago has only won twice in the month of February, having lost seven of their last nine. The most recent result saw the Hawks fall 6-3 to the Rangers on Wednesday.
Patrick Kane leads the Blackhawks with 27 goals and 75 points, followed by Jonathan Toews with 52 points and Dominik Kubalik with 38 points. Kubalik has 25 goals on the season, Brandon Saad has 18 tallies and Toews has 16. Robin Lehner is 16-10-5 in net for the Hawks; Corey Crawford is 10-16-3.
All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 53-50-(4)-9 all-time against the Blackhawks, including a 23-28-(1)-6 record at United Center. The Preds have earned at least a point in eight of their last 11 games against the Blackhawks (7-3-1). Nashville has limited Chicago to two-or-fewer goals in nine of their last 11 meetings.
Nashville claimed their previous meeting with Chicago, winning 5-2 at the United Center in a game that featured goaltender Pekka Rinne's first career goal. This will be the 117th time the Predators and Blackhawks clash in the regular season - Nashville's most games played against a single opponent.
Notables Versus Chicago:
Ryan Johansen has 22 points (5g-17a), including six multi-point games, in 32 career regular-season meetings with the Blackhawks. Mattias Ekholm has five assists in his last seven games versus the Blackhawks. He's recorded 11 points (1g-10a) and a +11 rating in 28 career games against Chicago.
Viktor Arvidsson has scored in three of his last five contests against Chicago, including his record-breaking 34th goal of the 2018-19 season on April 6, 2019, the most in a single season in Preds history.
