The Nashville Predators started the 2020-21 season with a win, and they'll try to go 2-for-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Bridgestone Arena.
The Preds topped the Jackets 3-1 on Opening Night in Nashville, led by a 29-save performance from Juuse Saros and goals from Luke Kunin, Filip Forsberg and Calle Jarnkrok. Those tallies all came unanswered in Nashville's comeback on Thursday, and while the Preds were satisfied with the win, they also know there is plenty to improve upon with the season officially underway.

"One of the things we talked about going into the game was that we wanted to have an identity at the end of the game," Preds Head Coach John Hynes said Friday. "Were we difficult to play against? Did we have a committed effort? I think we did that, and we talked with the guys too [and said] whether you win or lose the game, you have to take the lessons out of it. There are always some things that can be done better, there's always things that you did really well, and it's not getting too high in a win or getting too low on a loss.
"You've got to get better through winning, and you've got to get better if the end result isn't what you wanted it to be. We felt like we put some good work in the training camp, I think we reaped the rewards of some hard work [on Thursday], but we weren't perfect by any means. So, we have some things that we addressed [Friday], and we want to be a better hockey team [tonight]."
The Predators held team meetings and off-ice workouts on Friday at Bridgestone Arena. Forward Cole Smith, who made his NHL debut on Thursday with the Preds, was reassigned to Nashville's taxi squad on Friday, while defenseman Luca Sbisa was added to the team's active roster.

The Good Guys:
In addition to tallies from Kunin, Forsberg and Jarnkrok on Thursday, a total of eight players registered a single point in Nashville's 3-1 win. Roman Josi, Rocco Grimaldi, Erik Haula, Brad Richardson and Mark Borowiecki each recorded an assist, while Jarnkrok, Richardson, Borowiecki and Matt Benning each earned a +2 rating. Saros's performance in the victory gives him a 1.00 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage to start the season.
The Opposition:
Boone Jenner was the only Blue Jacket to record a point in Thursday's contest when he scored on an unassisted breakaway in the first period. Joonas Korpisalo started for Columbus in the loss and gave up two goals; Nashville's final tally was into an empty net.

All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are now 60-20-(1)-7 all-time against the Blue Jackets, including a 36-6-(1)-3 record at Bridgestone Arena. The Preds have earned at least a point in eight of their last nine games vs. the Blue Jackets (7-1-1).
At home, Nashville has won six of its last seven meetings with Columbus, and in the Preds' 46 home games vs. Columbus, they've only lost six times in regulation, with two of those losses coming in the first three matchups between the two teams.
Notables Versus Columbus:
Filip Forsberg notched his fifth career hat trick on April 7, 2018, versus Columbus. He now has 10 points (5g-5a) in 13 career meetings with the Blue Jackets.
