"Hockey is For Everyone" Essay Contest

The National Hockey League celebrates February as NHL Diversity month. NHL Clubs support this initiative by providing unique programming tied into the theme “Hockey is For Everyone”. To support this league-wide awareness, the Nashville Predators will hold an essay contest during January and through the beginning of February 2009 for middle school students in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. The essay topic—“What diversity means to me”—was chosen in support of the NHL Diversity program.

WHO:Fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students currently enrolled in a Metropolitan Nashville Public School.

WHAT:Students will participate in an essay contest (250 words or fewer) on “What diversity means to me”. Nashville Predators will select and notify four winners (one from each grade) on Feb. 9. Essays and a cover letter with the school name, student’s name, grade level and contact information to be submitted via mail by Feb 2 to:

WHEN:January - February 2009

NOTES: Each of the four winners will receive:
-Four tickets to the Feb 12th home game vs. St. Louis Blues
-Opportunity to meet NHL Alumni Willie O’Ree during pregame meeting
-Recognition from the CMT band stage during Preds home game
-Winning essay featured on with photo
-Post-game meet and greet with Predators players

Winners will be recognized during “Hockey is For Everyone” night at the Preds home game on February 12 vs. St. Louis Blues.
