Nikolas Dalton has never had to look very far to find his hero.
His father, former United States Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Victor Dalton, achieved an illustrative career in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years. Primarily serving as a shipboard intelligence analyst or instructor, Victor notably served during Operation Desert Storm and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4).
Commitment, determination and ambition defined Victor's service, and Nikolas says he sees those attributes in himself today. When Victor transitioned to retirement as a disabled veteran, Nikolas's admiration only grew. This fall, Nikolas begins his senior year of high school at a private school in Tennessee, thanks in part to his father's service and the nonprofit, Folds of Honor.

For the last 13 years, Folds of Honor has "provided educational scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service-members." They brought their country-wide impact to Tennessee last year and gave out 240 educational scholarships totaling $1.1 million, thanks to their benevolent donors.
One of Folds of Honor's donors is Sudden Service convenience stores. When Sudden Service was looking to jumpstart their involvement in Tennessee, they looked no further than one of the state's most powerful brands: the Nashville Predators. The new partners wanted to concoct an exciting and unique way to raise scholarship funds for military families.
What defines the Preds more than their one-of-a-kind home games in Smashville? Nothing. So the duo determined Sudden Service would donate $100 to Folds of Honor for every home goal scored by the Preds in the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
One year in, and the first check to Fold of Honor totaled $10,300 after the Predators scored 103 goals at Bridgestone Arena.

So, the next time you're at a Preds game, which everyone hopes is very soon, and you're celebrating the go-ahead goal in the third period, don't just cherish the impending victory, think of the $100 that just went to Folds of Honor. Think of a high school senior studying to be more like his hero. And be thankful for the sacrifice of that young man's father to make the United States of America a better, safer place.
