Milwaukee, WI—The American Hockey League announced today that Milwaukee Admirals center Blake Geoffrion has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 30, 2011. In two games, Geoffrion scored three goals and added three assists for six points for the Admirals, who hit the all-star break in a tie atop the West Division.

Instant Analysis
Blake Geoffrion has been one of the hottest players on the Admirals roster for the past month-plus. After opening the season with 10 points in his first 20 games of the season, Geoffrion has settled in as a point-per-game performer with seven goals and 15 points over his last 15 games played.

"I think the key word is development," Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile said. "It’s a little bit of a process. He had a good training camp and then a bit of a slow start to the regular season in Milwaukee. It’s somewhat typical of his career going back to youth hockey and college. It seems like he feels his way into the situation, but just like the past it seems like he’s catching up pretty quickly. His play since after Christmas has really improved and obviously it’s being recognized by the AHL Player of the Week this week and his five-point game this past weekend."

With the organization's depth, the Predators don't have to rush Geoffrion and have the luxury of being able to wait for his game to develop before calling him up. But the Preds are definitely "bullish" on Geoffrion's long-term abilities.

"I would say he’s right on target," Poile assessed. "The development is there. He’s going to certainly get his opportunity here in Nashville – I can’t tell you when and we don’t want to set a timeline – but it will happen."

Geoffrion had his biggest night as a pro on Friday, scoring two goals and assisting on three others to lead Milwaukee to an 8-1 win over division rival Peoria. On Saturday, Geoffrion scored again and was named the game's third star as the Admirals defeated Rockford, 3-2 in overtime.

In recognition of his achievement, Geoffrion will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

Geoffrion, who turns 23 on Feb. 3, is in his rookie season after a four-year career at the University of Wisconsin that saw him win the Hobey Baker Award as the top collegiate player in the nation as a senior in 2009-10. A second-round draft pick by Nashville in 2006, Geoffrion has recorded eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 35 games for the Admirals this season.

The Brentwood, TN native, is the grandson of former AHL coach and Hockey Hall of Famer Bernie Geoffrion and the son of former AHL forward Dan Geoffrion.

Geoffrion and the Admirals return to the Bradley Center Friday, February 4 to host the Rockford IceHogs at 7:00 pm. The first 5,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of Geoffrion, courtesy of Lee Jeans, and the UW Badger Band will perform at the game and put on a special 4th Period on the ice following the game.
