Preds 2007 second round pick Blake Geoffrion scored the game-winning goal as the University of Wisconsin rallied to beat Vermont 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament on Friday night.
Geoffrion, a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award (given to the nation's top player), assisted on the game's opening goal, 5:51 into the first period. After Vermont tallied a pair of goals later in the period, Wisconsin tied the game early in the second period and Geoffrion put the Badgers ahead with 44-seconds remaining in the middle frame. Beyond the goal and assist, Geoffrion also recorded a game-high seven shots on goal. Fellow Preds draftee Craig Smith
-- a freshman at Wisconsin -- registered two shots in the game.
Wisconsin will face St. Cloud State on Saturday evening in the West Regional Final for the chance to advance to the Frozen Four.
Locally, University of Alabama-Huntsville will face Miami (Ohio) at 3 pm CT today in the Midwest Regional.
