Predators players Dan Hamhuis, Scott Hartnell and Chris Mason of Canada and Martin Erat of the Czech Republic have progressed to the semifinals of the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship currently being held in Riga, Latvia. Predators Adam Hall and Ryan Suter were eliminated Wednesday when their U.S. club lost 6-0 to Sweden in the first game of the playoff round.

Canada advanced by defeating Slovakia 4-1 in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday. Hamhuis posted an assist on the game-winning goal and now has five points (1g, 4a) and a +4 rating in seven tournament games.

On Thursday, Preds prospect Zbynek Irgl scored 7:58 into overtime to give his Czech Republic team a 4-3 win over Russia. Erat assisted on the first Czech goal and ranks second on the club in tournament scoring with eight points (3g, 5a) in seven games.

In the final quarterfinal game, Finland defeated Belarus 3-0 Thursday to advance. Nashville prospects Jukka Hentunen and Mikko Lehtonen, who have each posted a goal and three assists in seven games, were held scoreless in the win.

On Saturday, Finland will play the Czech Republic and Canada will square off with Sweden. The winners of those two matches will compete Sunday for the gold medal while the losers will fight it out for bronze.
