The same jersey Filip Forsberg was wearing when he scored the game-tying goal against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena was in the hands of a young fan just minutes later.
Lucky Nashville Predators fans took part in the team’s annual “Shirts Off Our Backs” promotion, in conjunction with Fan Appreciation Night during the final home game of the regular season, proceeding out onto the ice after the Preds won a 3-2 overtime thriller to receive a jersey from a player.
The fans, who entered to win online at the Predators website or through the Smashville App, were selected at random, and then drew player numbers by another random drawing. Once Roman Josi ended the game in OT, it was time to collect the prize.
Leigh Morrison and her son, Aiden, were two of the fans chosen to participate. Aiden is a member of the Nashville Predators Kids Club and won the jersey of Gnash, the Preds mascot, as his souvenir to take home.
“For him to see the players up close and to see Gnash and be on the ice, that was pretty cool,” Leigh said of her son.
Ford Ice Center hockey player Tyler Yagar and his father, Chris, were thrilled to receive Forsberg’s No. 9 jersey.
“I just wanted to meet Forsberg. To get the jersey was really exciting,” Tyler said.
Brady Palmer and his son, Linden, who came away with Pekka Rinne’s jersey, were excited to just be a part of the Smashville celebration and have a chance to interact with some of the players.
“The atmosphere at Bridgestone Arena is better than any other sporting event in Nashville,” Brady said. “Player interaction is always great. It’s a ton of fun to be around them, and the players here make themselves more accessible than anywhere I’ve ever been as far as sporting events go. That’s what’s exciting.”
