Chet Pickard to Join Milwaukee

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
Nashville Predators 2008 First Round pick goaltender Chet Pickard, will join the Milwaukee Admirals for the team's 2009 AHL Playoff run.

Pickard, the 18th overall selection in last summer's NHL Entry Draft, was the starting goaltender for Tri-City in the WHL this season. In games he posted a 35-12-3 record with a 2.28 goals against average, .921 save percentage and six shutouts to earn a nomination for the WHL goaltender of the year honors (to be awarded at the WHL Awards Luncheon on April 29). Pickard also helped Team Canada win the Gold Medal at this year's World Junior Championships winning both of his appearances with a 0.50 goals against average and .958 save percentage.

"Next year he is going to be in our system coming to training camp as a professional player," Predators General Manager David Poile said. "In all likelihood with the goaltending we have here, he’s going to start off in Milwaukee next season. So this is a great pre-look for him and for us; a chance for him to experience the pro life getting to practice in Milwaukee and watching their games, getting to know the coaches and players that are approximately his age, and getting to learn the city of Milwaukee a little bit. So it’s a great indoctrination ahead of time."

The Admirals lead their AHL Division Semifinal series against Rockford 1-0 after last night's 3-1 win in Game 1. Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow night.
