The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that Nashville Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov has been suspended for four games.
The news came following an incident in the Predators 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday. In the second period of that game, Volchenkov hit Flames forward Michael Ferland in the head during a collision of the pair in the neutral zone.
Calgary announced earlier today that Ferland suffered a concussion on the play.
The absence of Volchenkov from the Predators lineup will last for the remainder of the six-game road trip that the club is currently on. Nashville takes on the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena tonight at 8:30 p.m. (CT).
Blueliner Victor Bartley is expected to take Volchenkov's spot in the Preds lineup.
