9 Preds Participate in 2010 World Championships

Nine players/prospects from the Nashville Predators organization are participating in this year's IIHF World Championship Tournament (May 7-22, Germany), including four players from the NHL roster and five prospects.

The Preds have two goaltenders in the tournament, Pekka Rinne for Finland and prospect Anders Lindback for Sweden. Defensemen Denis Grebeshkov (Russia) and Alexander Sulzer (Germany) are participating along with prosects Robert Dietrich (Germany) and Roman Josi (Switzerland). Among Preds forwards, Marcel Goc is serving as captain for Team Germany, while prospects Jonas Anderson (Sweden) and Antti Pihlstrom (Finland) are also playing in the tournament. Further Preds GM David Poile will serve as Asst. GM for Team USA's entry into the World Championship Tournament. will update progress throughout the tournament on the progress of the Preds players and prospects.

Josi stands out in first weekend of play
Roman Josi netted the game-winning goal for Switzerland in its 3-1 opening game win over Latvia on Saturday. Josi scored 2:28 into the second period and finished the game with two shots on goal and a +1 plus/minus rating. Josi followed it up with a power-play assist on Switzerland's second goal of the game early in the third period of Switzerland's 3-0 shutout win vs. Italy in Game 2 of the tournament on Monday afternoon. The Swiss, who wrap up the Preliminary Round on Wednesday afternoon against Canada, have secured a spot in the next round of play.

Team Germany Carries Nashville Feel
The Preds have three representatives on Team Germany, including German team captain Marcel Goc and defensemen Robert Dietrich and Alexander Sulzer. Through the first two games of the tournament the Germans have allowed just two goals. Germany upset Team USA 2-1 in overtime in the tournament opener -- an outdoor game played in front of 77,803 fans at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany -- before falling 1-0 to Team Finland in Game 2 of the tournament.
