2 Preds Prospects Compete in Memorial Cup Tournament
/ Nashville Predators
Preds prospects Gabriel Bourque and Ryan Ellis will both be participating in the 2010 Memorial Cup Tournament, a “tournament of champions” among the Canadian junior hockey leagues. This year's Memorial Cup will be held May 14-23 in Brandon, Manitoba.
Ellis and the Windsor Spitfires are making their second consecutive appearance in the tournament, winning the title last season. They won the OHL playoff title with a four-game sweep of Barrie in the OHL Championship Series, with Ellis posting seven points in the Championship Round, including three in the clinching game. Ellis recorded 33 points during the post-season run to lead all league defensemen – almost twice as many points as the next highest scoring defenseman (the next highest scoring defenseman finished with 18 points). His 33 points were tied for second among all skaters, while his 30 assists were a league playoff high. In addition, Ellis’s +13 plus/minus rating was fourth in the league.
Bourque and the Moncton Wildcats won the QMJHL title with a six-game triumph over St. John in the Championship Series. Bourque was named the league’s Playoff MVP after pacing the league with 19 goals during the playoffs, including eight in the Finals. His 29 points were third-most in the playoffs, while his +19 plus/minus rating was second and his four game-winning goals were tied for first. Bourque recorded 13 points in the six games of the Championships Series, including a hat trick in the series opener and three assists in the clinching Game 6 win.
