A day before Thanksgiving in 2001, the Predators unveiled a new look that produced results. The squad was as “good as gold” in five seasons wearing its alternate uniforms, producing a 38-19-12 record, including a 21-3-2 mark in their final two seasons donning them.
The gold jersey featured an "animated" saber-tooth tiger logo on the crest of the uniform and a pair of tiger skulls on the shoulders. Third or alternate jerseys around the league were put on the shelf for the 2007-08 season due to the implementation of the new Rbk EDGE jersey system.
The night of the unveiling against Chicago, the Preds won a 4-3 thriller thanks to David Legwand
’s go-ahead goal with just 12 seconds left in regulation. The wild Central Division matchup featured a goal in the final 20 seconds of each period – the Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead with 16 seconds left in the first, Nashville’s Vitali Yachmenev tied the game at two with 19 ticks remaining in the second, and Legwand finished the job in the waning seconds of the third.
