From 2001-04, few Nashville Predators were as popular as gritty and colorful forward Vladimir Orszagh. Dubbed the “Slovakian Tank” by Predators color commentator Terry Crisp, Orszagh scored at least 15 goals in each of his three seasons with Nashville. He also notched the fifth hat trick in franchise history on Nov. 29, 2003 in a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres at the Sommet Center.
All three of Orszagh’s tallies that night came at even strength. His first goal came less than two minutes into the game, and it wasn’t until the third that he struck again, scoring at the 1:39 and 10:28 marks of the final frame to send the hats flying. He also garnered an assist on the team’s only other goal, setting up “Vowel Line”-mate Denis Arkhipov.
The victory was the fourth of six in a row for Nashville during a 10-2-0 hot streak that helped vault to their first ever playoff berth.
