Return to Play Frequently Asked Questions

The NHL and NHL Players Association have announced their Return to Play plan for the 2020.21 season. For more details on the plan, please click here.

In the weeks ahead, we will work closely with the NHL and state and local officials to finalize our Return to Play plan for fans - specifically Penguins season ticket holders.

While the policies outlined on this page may change, this will serve as our tentative plan moving forward.

Will fans be able to attend Penguins games at PPG Paints Arena this season?

Fan attendance at Penguins home games is subject to local and state restrictions as well as NHL recommendations. At this time, we anticipate the 2020.21 season beginning with no fans or limited capacity crowds. As the season progresses, attendance policies may change. It is our goal to remain flexible and adjust accordingly.

Attendance for January home games will be restricted to family and friends of the players and team. Click here to read the full statement. Season ticket packages will be pro-rated accordingly.

How does this affect Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket holders?

Full and half season ticket holders that committed to the 2020.21 season will have their package adjusted based on the expected capacity.

If a game is to be played in front of a limited capacity crowd, the game will be released from the associated season ticket packages. The game will then be sold on an individual game basis.

Season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase individual game tickets for limited capacity games. Access to purchase will be granted in waves and will be weighted based on the following account attributes:

  1. Seat Location
  2. Package Type
  3. Applied Payments

Season tickets holders can use credit from the released games to purchase these single game tickets.

Note, if full capacity games are hosted this season, season ticket holders that renewed will receive their assigned seat location.

How far in advance will fans know if the game is limited or full capacity?

Attendance policies will be announced as additional guidance is received from state and local officials. These updates will be posted throughout the season.

Can season ticket holders request their current seat location for games sold on an individual game basis?

Due to the implementation of a new, socially distanced seating configuration for limited capacity games, it is unlikely season ticket holders will be able to purchase their exact seat location.

Note, season ticket holders will retain their assigned seat for games with no capacity restrictions.

Can the general public purchase single game tickets?

Single game tickets will only be made available to the general public if season ticket holders, mini-plan buyers and those that made $100 deposits do not purchase the available allotment. To receive individual game ticket updates, please click here.

When will my season tickets be mailed?

With the increased focus on secure, contactless entry, PPG Paints Arena will be a mobile-only facility starting with the 2020.21 hockey season. Fans, including season ticket holders, will be required to show a mobile ticket via a smartphone to gain entry. Fans can access their tickets by visiting www.pittsburghpenguins.com/myaccount or clicking 'Manage My Tickets' from the Tickets menu in the Penguins App.

Fans can also transfer, donate and resell tickets via the Account Manager website.

Note, tickets will not be made visible in Account Manager until the month of the game. This will allow us to maintain flexibility should scheduling changes occur.

What incentives exist for season ticket holders who have paid money towards their 2020.21 season tickets?

In addition to priority access for limited capacity games, season ticket holders will receive 5% simple interest on all money left on account between now and April 30, 2021. This includes money applied to a season ticket package and account/resale credit less any refund request.

Deposits made after the 10th of the month will not be subject to interest until the following month.

Example 1: $1,000 is on account. An additional payment of $500 is made February 5. February's calculation is $1,500 * .05 * 1/12 = $6.25

Example 2: $1,000 is on account. An additional payment of $500 is made February 15. February's calculation is $1,000 *.05 * 1/12 = $4.17

In Example 2, $1,500 will be used in March's calculation.

Tickets purchased for limited capacity games will not be included in the interest calculation. Interest can be applied towards a 2021 Playoff package purchase or your 2021.22 season tickets.

I paid my season ticket invoice already, but do not plan to attend any games this season. Can I request a refund?

On a monthly basis, season ticket holders will be credited for games requiring limited capacity. This credit can be used to purchase single game tickets based on availability. Account holders also have the option to leave credits on the account to be applied towards their 2021.22 renewal. See previous question for incentives in doing so! Refunds can be requested via the same method as the payment was made (same credit card or check). If you choose to leave the funds as an account credit, there is no need to contact the Penguins. If you are requesting a full refund, please email this request to cservice@pittsburghpenguins.com. Note, a full refund will void any 'loyalty bonus' collected during the 2020 NHL Pause.

Can I request a certain amount back for a refund?

Yes, you can request a partial refund. If you are requesting a partial refund, please email this request to cservice@pittsburghpenguins.com.

I requested a refund, but have yet to see a credit to my account. When will I receive it?

Refunds will be processed within 30 business days of receipt.

Will league mandates or limited capacity restrictions affect my Black and Gold Premier benefits?

It is our goal to provide a variety of Black and Gold Premier benefits to season ticket holders that have committed to the 2020.21 season. Should certain benefits be limited due to safety or fulfillment concerns, we look forward developing innovative replacements that enhance your season ticket holder experience.

As a season ticket holder, will I be able to take advantage of the ticket trade program this season?

Due to scheduling uncertainty, the ticket trade program has been paused until the 2021.22 regular season.

Will I be able to use my season ticket loyalty bonus this season?

When fan attendance is permitted, season ticket holders will be able to apply their loyalty bonus to in-game food and beverage purchases during the 2020.21 season. Any unused credit will be available for the 2021.22 season. Note, a full refund will void this loyalty bonus.

Will I be able to use my season ticket holder 15% discount on food, beverage and merchandise purchases during the 2020.21 season?

When fan attendance is permitted, season ticket holders will be able to use their 15% discount on in-game food, beverage and merchandise purchases. This 15% discount will be available through the Penguins app. In addition, season ticket holders can currently use the discount for purchases at PensGear.com. Be sure to use your email address on file to enable this discount.

I am a season ticket holder but have not received any email updates from the Pittsburgh Penguins during the NHL Pause. Is this normal?

Season ticket holder updates are emailed to renewed accounts at least once a month. If you are not receiving these communications, please reach out to 412.642.PENS for assistance.
