Local products J.T. Miller and Stephen Johns each scored goals as Team USA thrashed Denmark, 11-3, on the opening night of the 2012 World Junior Championship in Edmonton. All USA games in the tournament are being televised by the NHL Network.

Team USA has a heavy Pittsburgh influence, as four players from the Pittsburgh Hornets program -- Miller, Johns, Brandon Saad and John Gibson -- all are part of the roster. Saad chipped in an assist Monday, while Gibson served as the backup goaltender but did not see action.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2011 draft pick Josh Archibald also played for the U.S. and picked up an assist.

Charlie Coyle scored a hat trick and Kyle Rau added two goals to lead the attack. Goaltender Jack Campbell made 20 saves.

Team USA plays Finland Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on the NHL Network. Upcoming games also include Friday against the Czech Republic at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday against Canada at 8 p.m.

Johns is from Wampum, Saad from Gibsonia, Miller from Coraopolis/East Liverpool OH and Gibson from Whitehall.

NOTE: NHL Network U.S. will provide live broadcasts and will provide live streams of the U.S. National Junior Team games at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26 to Jan. 5. NHL Network also will televise all medal-round games and five additional preliminary-round match-ups, airing a total of 15 games.
