WHITNEY UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY ON WRIST

Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced that Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney underwent successful surgery Thursday on his wrist.

Whitney will begin rehabilitation immediately, for a term of six to eight weeks, and will be ready to join the team for the start of training camp.

Whitney, 24, registered 59 points (14+45) in 81 games during the 2006-07 regular season. He tied for sixth in scoring among all NHL defensemen.
