Greater Latrobe and West Allegheny, last year’s Class AA Penguins Cup finalists, met in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at Kirk S. Nevin Arena.
The Wildcats came away with a second-straight victory over the Indians and a chance to defend their title, thanks to a herculean effort by Zachary LaDuke.
LaDuke scored all four Wildcats goals to give his team a 4-2 victory, starting with his unassisted shorthanded goal with 1:29 remaining in the first. Christopher Allison and Jonathan Levitt scored for the Indians.Class AA: Chartiers Valley 5, Montour 4
Jonathan Levy scored the game-winning goal with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation to give Chartiers Valley a 5-4 win over Montour on Wednesday at Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.
The Spartans came out hard, earning a 4-1 lead early in the third period thanks to a pair of goals from Domenic Martinelli and a tally from Zachary Milnarcik. But Justin Sabilla, who had two goals, and Levy spurred the Colts’ late rally, as Sabilla’s tally came with just 1:14 remaining.
Austin Kronz also scored for Montour, while Bob Tracy notched Chartiers Valley’s other goal.Class A: Kittanning 8, Central Valley 0
Troy Schall’s four-goal night powered top-seeded Kittanning past eighth-seeded Central Valley on Wednesday at the Belmont Ice Complex.
The Wildcats entered the second period with a 5-0 lead as Schall and Hunter Grafton each scored within the first 54 seconds. Jake Enders, Hunter Anthony and Heinz Koster rounded out the first-period scoring before Schall notched Kittanning’s next three goals.Class A: Hampton 6, Serra Catholic 3
The sixth-seeded Hampton upset third-seeded Serra Catholic with their 6-3 win on Wednesday at the Rostraver Ice Garden.
The Eagles scored the game’s first two goals when Jarrett Ruchka earned a shorthanded score 3:58 into the first period. He then assisted on R.J. Kendi’s even-strength tally just two minutes later.
But the Talbots stormed back with four unanswered goals, including a pair from Zachary Homitz, to go up 4-2. And while Serra Catholic’s Nicholas Vacsulka got the Eagles to within one 9:20 into the third, Hampton’s Luke Leya scored and Ian Wood added an empty-net goal to cement the Talbots’ victory.Class AAA: Bethel Park 5, Pittsburgh Central 1
Bethel Park earned an early 4-0 lead en route to topping Pittsburgh Central, 5-1, on Wednesday at Bladerunners of Bethel.
Daniel Kucerovy scored twice for the Black Hawks. Neil Carleton scored Pittsburgh Central’s lone goal while on the power play.
