Class AAA: Canon McMillan 2, State College 1

Kyle Almasy’s tally with 1:57 remaining in regulation allowed Canon McMillan to pull off the only upset of the Class AAA quarterfinal round as the Big Macs overcame a 1-0 third-period deficit to skate away with a 2-1 victory over No. 3 seed State College.

Brett Oldaker set the stage for Almasy’s heroics by knotting the game 5:02 into the final period. Canon McMillan goaltender Brandon Smolarek stopped 20 of 21 shots to record the victory.

Ryan Pate scored the lone State College goal in the first period.

Canon McMillan’s reward is a semifinal matchup against defending Class AAA champion Shaler either next Monday or Tuesday at Mellon Arena.

Class AA: Peters Township 4, Meadville 2

Matt Lison figured in on three of Peters Township’s four scores with two goals and an assist as the Indians defeated Meadville 4-2 to advance to the Class AA semifinals.

Michael Amelio added a goal and an assist and Matt White had two helpers for Peters Township, which also received a goal from Paul Henney.

Christopher Shell stopped 30 of 32 shots to pick up the victory.

Drew Finton and Clayton Stockton scored in a losing effort for Meadville while Dean Wisinski had two assists. Taylor Nickerson made 43 saves.

Class A: Kittanning 9, Knoch 3

Kittanning used a seven-goal scoring outburst in the second period to eliminate Knoch, 9-3, from the Class A playoff field at Belmont Arena. Kittanning will take on Serra Catholic Monday or Tuesday for the right to play in next weekend’s Penguin Cup Final.

Jake Enders led the way for Kittanning with four goals and an assist while Jordan Ford added two goals and two assists and Troy Schall picked up a goal and two helpers.

Knoch’s Evan Gorse had all three goals for the Knights.

Class A: Mars 7, Quaker Valley 2

Defending Class A champion Mars took care of business against Quaker Valley, 7-2, to advance to the semifinals where they will take on No. 4 seed Bishop McCort.

Mars received a hat trick from regular-season scoring leader Elliot Tisdale, a goal and an assist from Tyler Thomas and four assists from Nick Blaney.

Tyler Stepke stopped 23 of 25 shots to pick up the victory.

Robbie Sigurosson, Conrad Thibault and Rusty Miller also tallied for the Planets.

Ben Moidel and Alex Jackson scored for Quaker Valley.
