USA Hockey National Championships Open Wednesday at RMU Island Sports Center

The USA Hockey 18-and-under National Championships open Wednesday at RMU Island Sports Center. Among the featured games on the first day of competition will be Shattuck St. Mary’s of Minnesota against the Mid-Fairfield Blues at 4:45 p.m. and the host Pittsburgh Hornets facing the Buffalo Regals at 6:45 p.m.


The top twelve Tier I teams in the country will play round-robin competition from Wednesday-Friday. The tournament semifinals will be held Saturday and the national championship game will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

There also will be a Tier II tournament, with Pittsburgh’s Arctic Foxes competing.

A special skills competition is scheduled for Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

OTHER NATIONAL QUALIFIERS: Two other district teams also are involved in national championship competition this weekend. The Pittsburgh Huskies Pee Wee AAA team will compete in the national tournament at Indian Trails, N.C. April 1-5. The Mid-Atlantic Mustangs Under-16 AA team will play in the nationals in St. Louis.
