Through the FANS Pens v. Bruins (3/11/12)

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

Concluding a four game home stand, the Pittsburgh Penguins entered an afternoon contest against the Boston Bruins. Prior to this match up, the last time Pittsburgh got a win on home ice against Boston was on March 7, 2010 at the Mellon Arena.

As the game began, the Pens struck first, and second, and third, while also notching some pretty important player points:

"You can not play a better period of hockey than the @pghpenguins just played against the Bruins. #perfect" --@Matt_PAOnessa

"@malkin71_ You're amazing. Happy 500!" --@marcandremagic

"Seriously, @pghpenguins are playing this 1st period like the 3rd of a playoff game!" --@snippiddydoda

"James Neal with a beautiful snipe after an excellent pass from GENO...3-0 #pens" --@rickykokalj91

"Easily one of the best periods of hockey I have ever seen the penguins play in my life the energy in this building is unreal" --@patrickjg13

"So far the Pens are up 3-0, I won a big mac, $15 free play at Rivers, and I predicted Asham would score first. Hope I get the jersey" --@ErinLeaver

"I will take Evgeni Malkin for 500"

The second period saw goals from both teams, ending with the Penguins holding a 4-2 lead. Goaltending becomes a topic of discussion as Boston's Tim Thomas is replaced with veteran goalie Marty Turco, who recently signed a short-time contract with the Bruins. Marc-Andre Fleury's playing is also discussed online:

"And the crowd chants "Fleury" due to those nice saves by The Flower. #Pens" --@NinjaSavior

"Malkin with 3 dimes, #leggo finish this off #Pens #LetsGoPens" --@zac6667

The Pens finish it up with a score of 5-2, winning all four games of the home stand, and snatching nine in a row.

"Wooo best time of my life <3 loved seeing the #Pens play in Pittsburgh! Great win :)" --@SaviiW
"@pghpenguins Just won a hot dog! Would go great with a Pens win!" --@justincady

We are happy @JustinCady, see left, got his accompanying Pens win too!
