VANCOUVER -- Jordan and Marc Staal spent a week on a beach in St. Lucia during the Olympic break, but their big brother Eric, one of Team Canada's forwards, said they stayed in constant contact with him and have offered nothing but positive reactions and glowing support.
"It's a lot of text messaging," Eric said. "They're back practicing now, so they are away from the beach and watching every game. They've definitely been in close contact with me and they're excited.
"They got away for a couple of days to catch some sun. I'm not sure of the color of their skin, whether it's red or brown, but it's probably red since they are pretty pale."
Eric knows it's hard on Jordan because he was so close to making this team and many people thought -- and still think -- he deserves to be in Vancouver. Marc also was at the orientation camp over the summer, but he was considered a long shot to make it.
"Yeah, I think it is (hard on Jordan)," Eric said. "If I was watching it would be hard, but it's not going to change his feeling toward our team. He wants me to win and us to win and play well. I would as well if I were him. You want to be there and be a part of it, but hopefully for him, Marc -- and Jared for that matter -- they'll get a chance one day, too."
