The Penguins avoided losing yet another player to injury this week.
Jordan Staal, who suffered bruised ribs in Tuesday night’s game in Tampa Bay, practiced Wednesday and is expected to play Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.
Staal suffered the injury during a collision late in the first period and he did not return to the ice for the rest of the contest.
Meanwhile, Sidney Crosby is expected to play again Thursday night. He made a triumphant return from a high ankle sprain Tuesday and set up Maxime Talbot’s game-winning goal. Crosby was on the ice for 22:07 against the Lightning and practiced Wednesday.
Likewise, defenseman Ryan Whitney returned to the ice Tuesday night following a sore groin. He skated for 19:39 and is expected to be in the lineup Thursday. He practiced Wednesday as well.
Meanwhile, winger Marian Hossa remains day-to-day with a sprained knee. He suffered the injury last Thursday in Boston in his Penguins debut. Hossa joined the Penguins on this road trip and skated before practice Wednesday.
