This playoff season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are encouraging fans with space on their face to get their beard on by participating in the team’s sixth annual “Beard-A-Thon” campaign. This year’s program is once again presented by SUPERCUTS and all proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
Fans willing to grow playoff beards are asked to enroll online at www.beardathon.com/penguins and upload photos of their freshly shaved faces prior to the start of the playoffs. Throughout the playoffs, beard growers can ask their friends, family members and co-workers to pledge their beards while updating their profile pictures.
The Penguins will award prizes to the three beard growers who raise the most money for the charity. This year’s prizes include a team signed authentic helmet, an autographed Sidney Crosby jersey and free SUPERCUTS haircuts for a year.
Fans who create a Beard-A-Thon profile by the time the puck drops in the Penguins’ first playoff game of the post-season will also be eligible to win one of three Penguins Beard-a-Thon prize packs including a puck autographed by a Pittsburgh Penguins player, a Mario Lemieux Foundation hoodie and a Beard-A-Thon t-shirt!
Fans who are unwilling or unable to grow playoffs beards are also encouraged to participate by supporting friends, family members or celebrities who are growing beards. Tanner Glass and Brandon Sutter have volunteered to support the cause as well as Mario Lemieux.
Penguins’ fans have raised over $371,000 for the Mario Lemieux Foundation since the program’s inception in 2009.
