Crosby has averaged a point per game or higher (1.24 PTS/GM) for the 17th straight season, trailing only Wayne Gretzky for the most seasons with a point per game or higher in league history.
With 30-plus goals for a 10th season, Crosby joined Lemieux (11) and Jaromir Jagr (10) as the only Penguins to hit the 30-goal mark 10-plus times. Nine of his 31 goals this season were game winners, climbing the Penguins' all-time game-winning goals leaderboard to tie Jaromir Jagr and Evgeni Malkin for the most in franchise history (78). Crosby also etched himself in NHL history yet again by becoming the all-time leader in overtime points with his goal against Nashville on April 10, 2022, which also doubled as his 19th career overtime winner, tying Jagr for the second-most in league history
Other milestones reached this season for the Novia Scotia native include becoming the second active player and 46thplayer in NHL history to score 500 career goals on February 15, 2022 versus Philadelphia and becoming the seventh-fastest player to record 1,400 career points in his 1,100th game on April 10 versus Nashville.
With his 11th career 80-point season, the most among all active players, Crosby helped the Penguins clinch a playoff spot for the 16th-consecutive season, which is the longest active streak among all major North American professional sports leagues. Since the 1967 NHL expansion, the Penguins' 16-season playoff streak is tied for the seventh-longest run of any NHL team.
