OTTAWA – A strong second period propelled the Senators past the Penguins, 3-0, Thursday night in Ottawa.
The Senators victory clinched the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series over Pittsburgh, 4-1.
Dany Heatley found the back of the net 1:08 into the second period for a power-play goal and a 1-0 Senators lead.
Antoine Vermette picked up a turnover in the neutral zone, broke in alone on Marc-Andre Fleury and wristed the puck into the net 6:20 into the second period.
Chris Kelly whipped a loose puck past Fleury with 2:05 left on the clock.
Ottawa goaltender Ray Emery stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the victory.
