HAMILTON, Ontario – The Pittsburgh Penguins lost in a shootout to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night in Hamilton, Ontario.
The shootout went 11 rounds before the Sabres’ Clarke MacArthur converted to win the game. Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Buffalo’s Thomas Vanek both tallied goals in the opening round of the overtime shootout
In regulation, Buffalo scored first, but the Penguins grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first period.
Henrik Tallinder gave the Sabres a 1-0 edge 6:59 into the contest.
However, Crosby set up a pair of Penguins goals.
Crosby and Kristopher Letang set up Nils Ekman for a goal at 7:55.
Pittsburgh went ahead, 2-1, at 11:29 when Letang tallied a power-play goal. Crosby and Colby Armstrong eared assists on the play.
The Sabres knotted the game at 3-all 6:07 into the third period on Jason Pominville’s goal.
The Penguins were out shot, 43-18, in regulation and 46-19 for the contest.
Pittsburgh returns to action Sunday in London, Ontario, against the Flyers.
