DALLAS – The Penguins won their second shootout of the year Friday night with a 4-3 triumph in Dallas.
Erik Christensen scored on the Penguins’ first shot, while goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside Sergei Zubov, Jussi Jokinen and Mike Ribeiro to earn the win.
Mark Recchi picked up the 499th and 500th goals of his distinguished NHL career on the night as well.
Zubov’s shot slipped past Fleury for a power-play goal with 8:02 left in the first period.
Jordan Staal ripped a shot past Marty Turco with 11:18 left on the second period. Streaking down the near side, he wristed a shot into the net. Ryan Whitney and Michel Ouellet earned the assists on the play.
Recchi gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead with 7:52 remaining in the second. Sidney Crosby’s initial shot was blocked, but the puck came right back to him and he sent it to the net. It deflected off Recchi’s skate and trickled through Turco’s legs. Ryan Malone had the other assist on the play.
It was Recchi’s 499th career goal.
Jussi Jokinen one-timed a shot into the net with 5:17 left to knot the game at 2-all.
Patrik Stefan tapped in a blocked shot to give Dallas a 3-2 lead with 10:41 to go.
Recchi tallied career goal 500 with 8:01 left in regulation to tie the game at 3-all. Whitney’s pass deflected out front to Recchi, who wristed it into the net. Crosby added an assist on the power-play goal.
