Here's what the Pens were saying in the locker room heading into Friday's matchup with the Rangers…
ON KEEPING THE RANGERS BEHIND THEM IN THE STANDINGS:
Dumoulin: "Obviously we're getting some bodies back and getting a little bit healthy and we know the Rangers are right there with us in our division and it's a tight division right now. We're still fighting for home ice and there's still a lot to play for even though there's a little bit of games left. It's important for us to have a strong outing against these guys and try to get back in the win column."
Sheary: "I think that's important. They're right behind us and still in reach and I think if we give them four points and don't show up against them, I think that could be bad for us and good for them to move up in the division. I think these are important games."
ON HOW THEY CAN TIGHTEN UP DEFENSIVELY:
Dumoulin: "The Chicago chances that we gave up, there were a lot of 2-on-1s, some breakaways. Those high-quality chances, we can't be giving to a team like that. The Rangers have guys, too, who are able to score and create a lot of opportunities. It'll be important for us to be able to limit those chances."
Rust: "Probably just play a little bit more simple, especially at the blue lines. Just trying to get pucks out, get pucks in and try and grind them down a little bit more and play a little bit more of a simple, meat and potatoes type game."
ON NEW YORK'S HOME ICE STRUGGLES:
Sheary: "I think just with any road game, I think you want to come out and take the momentum away from the home crowd and the home team. So I think if we have a good start and get to our game as quick as we can, I think we'll be okay."
