Here's what the Pens were saying in the locker room heading into their 5 p.m. matchup with Tampa Bay on Sunday (CHANGE FROM ORIGINAL START TIME)… Today's game is presented by PPG.
ON COMING OUT OF THE BYE WEEK:
Sullivan: "All we can do is control what we can to put ourselves in the position to be successful and that's what we've tried to do. We put a game plan together here for the last couple of days. We had a strategy going into this break to try to manage the players through the break, so we're controlling everything within our power to give ourselves the best chance to be successful when that puck drops tomorrow. For me, that's all we can do. Now it's all about a mindset. It's about being ready to play and not easing into a game, but making sure we're ready to play right from the drop of the puck."
ON THE POWER PLAY (WHICH SCORED 3 GOALS AGAINST THE LIGHTNING IN PITTSBURGH'S 4-3 COMEBACK WIN ON DEC. 10):
Crosby: "I think at that point, we had been struggling. When you get a little momentum, you get that first one, you just get some confidence. We buried the chances we got and that's really the biggest difference. I think that you're going to generate chances and fortunately that night, we made the most of every one we got."
Schultz: "It's something that we want to try and take advantage of. If we get power plays, we want to create momentum if we're not scoring. There's nothing worse than when you go out there on the power play and they get momentum from a good penalty kill. Just even if we don't score, staying positive and getting shots and getting chances."
ON THEIR BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM THAT GAME:
Crosby: "It was just a fast game. What we expected, obviously having played them in the playoffs. We have a good idea of how both teams play. Just much of what we expected and saw throughout the playoffs."
ON THE LIGHTNING BEING A QUICK STRIKE TEAM:
Schultz: "Just be aware of where they are on the ice. They've got a lot of skilled guys that can get behind you, so just being aware of who you're on the ice with and if we play with the puck a lot, we're not going to have to defend. So just holding onto pucks and playing our game."
ON BEING REUNITED WITH THEIR 2009 TEAMMATES:
Malkin: "It's exciting. Great memories. To see the old guys, old players, we're all friends around here. It's an amazing time. (Ruslan) Fedontenko called me and we went to dinner together. It's an amazing time and I'm excited."
Fleury: "We had a great group of guys, great friends. We're missing a few players, some guys are still playing, but there will be a lot of them (at the game) so it will be fun to be with them."
