Here's what the Pens were saying in the locker room heading into their game against the Bruins…
ON WHAT TO EXPECT TONIGHT:
Crosby: "I think we expect a desperate team. They had a big game (Tuesday) night where they came back and are probably looking to build some momentum there, and we're coming off a game where we weren't really too happy with the result. So we've got one more game here before the All-Star break and want to make sure we're playing the right way. So I think regardless of playing them a few days ago, I think it's just two teams who just want to finish strong before the break."
ON WHAT THEY CAN TAKE AWAY FROM THEIR RECENT MEETING WITH BOSTON:
Sheary: "It wasn't our best defensive game by any means. I think (Matt Murray) bailed us out a few times to keep us in the game and then ultimately take the momentum away from them. I think that was huge for us. I think tonight we want to stay out of the box, especially. We don't want to give their power play a chance and then 5-on-5, just the little things. Do the little things right and make sure you're sticking with your check and making sure you're not giving them Grade-A opportunities."
Rust: "There might be a little bit of carryover just because I think we didn't play our best, but we definitely capitalized on our scoring chances. And I think we've got to play a little bit of a better game, but we've got to stay opportunistic, we've got to make the most of our chances but we've got to be a little bit stronger defensively. I think we can learn from that last game."
Crosby: "You just kind of turn the page. At this point you understand tendencies and strengths and players on other teams, things like that. I think more of the focus is on your team and what you have to do individually and your job and that kind of thing. I think you just try to make sure you go out there and play the right way."
ON WHAT THEIR LINE DID TO BE SO DOMINANT IN THAT GAME:
Sheary: "I think when we're using our speed and putting their defense under pressure and getting pucks behind them that's when we're at our best. I think we have the ability to read off other and make quick plays. I think if you can beat your defender to the net and get open, I got open a couple times on the back door and I just happened to bang one in. I think that's just how the game went. We used our strengths to our ability and were able to beat them."
ON ADJUSTING WITHOUT MALKIN:
Hornqvist: "I think we just have to keep playing the right way. Get pucks deep and play simple and always recover and get on the right side of pucks. Geno is obviously a big part of this team but some guys have to step up and we know we have a really deep group, so I'm not too worried about that."
ON PLAYING IN HIS HOMETOWN:
Sheary: "It's nice. It's always nice coming back to your hometown. It's my third time now and it still doesn't get old. It's just one of those games you're excited to play in and you circle it on the schedule. I'll have a lot of family and friends here to support me, which is great. It's good to be back. I probably know about 30 people, but I can only imagine how many other guys didn't text me or whatever."
