Pittsburgh Penguins' Brand Ranks No. 8 in Professional Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ brand ranks No. 8 out of 122 teams in professional sports, according to research done by Turnkey Sports & Entertainment and published in the Sports Business Journal.

Turnkey surveyed fans from teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB and asked them to rate local teams in 21 different categories. including entertainment value, commitment to winning, ticket value, likeability of the players and ownership.

The top 10 brands in pro sports are the Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Red Wings, San Antonio Spurs, Penguins, Boston Celtics and St. Louis Cardinals.

“To be ranked among teams with the most iconic brands in professional sports, including the Packers, the Red Sox and the Steelers, is a great honor for our franchise and a tribute to our players, ownership, staff and fans,” said Penguins president David Morehouse.

The Penguins also scored high in delivering value for their sponsors.

Pittsburgh and Boston were the only cities to have two franchises rank in the top eight nationally. The Penguins had ranked 20th out of 122 teams in 2007.

The Penguins’ brand ranks second in the NHL behind only Detroit.
