As many as seven Pittsburgh-area players could be in action when Robert Morris takes on Ohio State in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase Friday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. at Mellon Arena.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved seats. They are on sale now at Ticketmaster outlets, at the Mellon Arena Gate One box office or by calling 412-323-1919. On game night, youth hockey players age 14 and under who wear their team jerseys can buy tickets for $8.

Penguins’ defenseman Ryan Whitney, who played college hockey at Boston University, will drop the puck for the ceremonial opening faceoff

“It’s a great thing for Pittsburgh hockey to have Robert Morris competing in NCAA Division 1, and to again be hosting the College Hockey Showcase at Mellon Arena,” said Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero. “And it says a lot for the quality of our local amateur hockey that so many Pittsburgh kids are on these Division1 rosters. We encourage all of our fans to come out and see some great college hockey.

Three Pittsburgh-area products, including two NHL draft picks, will be playing for Ohio State.  They are forward C.J. Severyn of Beaver, a Calgary Flames’ draft pick; defenseman Matt Bartkowski of Mt. Lebanon, a Florida Panthers’ pick; and forward Sergio Somma of Plum.

Four Pittsburgh-area players are on the Robert Morris roster: Forward Furman South of Sewickley, defenseman Denny Urban of Baldwin, defenseman Josh Jones of Scenery Hill and forward Ron Cramer of New Wilmington.

Robert Morris and Ohio State skated to a 5-5 tie in last year’s showcase before a crowd of 4,301 at Mellon Arena.

In the preliminary game on Nov. 14, the Robert Morris women’s hockey team will take on conference rival Niagara at 5 p.m.
