0:00: Horn sounds. This game is going to a shootout.

0:55: Neal tries a wraparound that skitters through the crease.

2:25: Both teams have traded chances with neither converting.

5:00: Puck drops. Game on. Extra session underway.

0:00: The Pens had a couple great chances in the final minute, but couldn't get a score. We're going to overtime.

1:31: Detroit kills the penalty. Back to even strength.

3:00: Brent Johnson made the save of the year. The Red Wings had a 2-on-1. After two passes, Johnson made a split glove save to deny Helm.

3:43: Kronwall is called for interference. The Pens PP will get a great opportunity late in the game.

6:03: Unbelievable up-and-down action right now in this contest. Great flow and great entertainment.

7:41: Johnson with another solid save. Then the players push and shove after the whistle. These two teams aren't very friendly.

9:33: Modano nets a goal and the game is all tied up. He sneaks into the far circle and took the pass. Modano settles the puck and lifts a shot into the corner. Coach Bylsma calls timeout to settle the trooops. Penguins 4, Red Wings 4

10:13: Ridiculawesome save by Johnson on Zetterberg down the center lane. Johnson was alert on the shot from five feet out.

10:52: The Red Wings draw another penalty and are riding some momentum. There is a scrum in front of the Pens net after the whistle.

11:54: Kronwall buries a one-timer from the point that finds its way through traffic into the net. This game just got real interesting. Penguins 4, Red Wings 3

13:00: Letang is going to get called for a cross check. Detroit's PP with an opportunity to make this a one-goal game.

15:50: I love the physical play of the Penguins in this game. Pittsburgh is outhitting Detroit by a 28-19 mark.

18:03: The Red Wings get another tally early in the third. Filppula gets a pass in the slot and slides it through Johnson for the tally. Penguins 4, Red Wings 2

20:00: Puck drops. Game on. 20 minutes to pay dirt.

Speaking of Jimmy B's love of mom's spaghetti, that reminds me of one Detroit native from 8 Mile. Of course I'm talking about Marshall Mathers. Let's kick off the final frame with Eminem's "Lose Yourself." This is our shot, feet feel us not, this may be the only opportunity that we got.

- Dupuis has 3 points, 4 shots, plus-3 in the game (2G-1A)
- Kennedy with 4 hits, 1 goal, 1 goal post
- Adams has 1 goal disallowed

0:00: The second period comes to an end. 40 minutes completed in Detroit. The Pens holding a 4-1 advantage on the scoreboard.

1:29: Bertuzzi is getting called for interference. Pens power play will go to work.

2:19: Zetterberg's shot goes off of Letang's skate and sneaks into the net to get the Red Wings on the board. Penguins 4, Red Wings 1

5:38: On a side note, big thanks to Jimmy B for not only letting me blog from his apartment, but also running to get a power chord for my computuer. He is one of the most solid guys I know. Here are some other random Jimmy B facts: he's 6-foot-1; loves Nirvana (a love we share); favorite movie is Forrest Gump; favorite food is mom's spaghetti; eats pineapples occasionally; avid snowboarder; die-hard Pirates fan.

6:05: Joey MacDonald enters the game in place of Howard. Meanwhile, Johnson makes a sick pad save on Filppula. Grandpa Sid Abel would be proud.

6:44: KENNEDY!!! ... KENNEDY. TK finds a loose puck in front. Kennedy turns the puck to his backhand and lifts it over the outstretched leg of Howard. Penguins 4, Red Wings 0

9:09: Dupuis gets his second goal of the game with a shorty!!! The Pens use a 2-on-1 while shorthanded. The pucks slides off Dupuis' stick, but he collects it off the boards and beats Howard in stuffing it over the goal line. Penguins 3, Red Wings 0

10:36: Niskanen is going to get called for a penalty. Pens PK goes back to work.

12:08: Johnson with another great save challenging a shot from Bertuzzi.

13:45: The Red Wings are pressuring the Pens cage, but Johnson is staying strong between the pipes. Modano with a few chances.

15:38: Adams appears to have banked a puck off the post and in the net, but the ref is waving the goal off. Asham and Rupp were crashing the net. I guess Asham is ruled interfering with Howard.

18:35: The Pens are pressuring hard. Neal has a great chance with Howard out of position, but he manages to get enough of the puck to turn it away.

19:25: The Pens just clank a shot off the red painted metal. Kennedy rings the bell.

20:00: Puck drops. Game on. Second period underway.

Let's start the second period with Motown legend Marvin Gaye. Here's a live performance of "What's Goin' On?"

- Red Wings outshooting the Pens, 11-8
- Dupuis and Staal are each plus-2
- Kunitz has 7 points (4G-3A) in the past 4 games now

0:00: That'll do it for the first period. 20 minutes down, and the Pens take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room.

0:42: BOOM. The Pens take a 2-0 lead as the red hot Chris Kunitz scores. The play starts with a turnover just inside the Detroit blue line. Dupuis takes a shot and Kunitz beat two Wings to the loose puck, pulls it around Howard and guides it over the goal line. Penguins 2, Red Wings 0

1:01: Martin with a beautiful spin-move and pass right atop the crease for the Pens. Martin's skating and puck skills are impressive. That is a classic Shake and Bake move. Ricky Bobby would be proud.

1:28: Staal just misses on an opportunity to the side of the cage. A great pass from Kovalev gave Staal a wide-open net, but Staal's shot hit the outside of the net.

2:13: Pens kill the penalty. Staal rejoins his teammates on the bench.

3:27: Great work by Talbot to disrupt a rush by the Wings. Kunitz is getting some time on the kill unit.

4:15: Staal gets called for hooking and will sit in the box. A tough spot for the Pens PK with Cooke and Staal not out for this kill.

4:46: Pens strike Gold!!! Pascal Dupuis takes a wraparound backhand shot and sneaks it passed Howard. Dupuis had a lot of power on that shot and it surprised Howard. Penguins 1, Red Wings 0

5:55: The penalty expires and Detroit is back to full strength.

6:21: Martin gets a good blast from the midpoint and Rupp sniffs around for a rebound. Howard is able to consume the rubber.

7:55: Ericsson goes to the box for holding. Pens PP goes to work.

8:30: Zetterberg has an open net as Johnson desperately stretches out his blocker. Zetterberg's shot misses the net. Whew.

9:32: For the record, Engelland was hit in the face with a puck. But he is back on the ice for the Pens. Those hockey players are tough.

10:20: Asham, in his first game back, has a great chance at the doorstep. Howard was able to make the save. The Pens are starting to build some momentum.

11:48: The Kunitz-Staal-Kennedy line with a great shift in the offensive zone. Staal got a chance in front and later Kennedy has an opportunity from the far circle.

12:58: Bertuzzi tries stuffing a puck in the side of the net, but Johnson wags a disapproving finger as he makes the save (OK I may have added the finger wag).

13:44: Engelland heads down the runway to the Pens locker room. Hopefully, just a skate repair or something. In the meantime, Jimmy B just said he's patiently awaiting Doc Emrick's first Pirates reference of the evening.

15:18: Lovejoy gets a great chance from the point, but Howard makes the save.

17:35: Brent Johnson makes two point-blank pad saves, and follows that with a save on a shot from the slot. Johnson gets tested early and cooly discards the puck.

20:00: Puck drops. Game on. First period underway.

7:34 PM: Since I'm doing the game blog, I've got to add my music flavor. In tonight's blog we'll be bringing you the sights and sounds of Detroit. We'll start off with the White Stripes, "Icky Thump." It even has Spanish subtitles for those who no hablas Ingles.

7:30 PM: A lot of news coming out today for the Pens. Matt Cooke gets a hefty suspension, GM Ray Shero reacts here. In place of Cooke, the Pens will go with Arron Asham. Brent Johnson will get the nod in net for the Pens. For more info check out Michelle's report from the Motor City.

7:15 PM: Welcome to the in-game blog. I'm coming to you live from my buddy Jimmy B's apartment.

Michelle Crechiolo went home to her native land of Michigan. While she was bringing you the latest news on the Pens in Detroit, I took a trip to Southpointe to bring you the latest on Sidney Crosby's progress. Sid was kind enough to let PensTV shoot his practice session with strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar.
