10:04 PM: Pittsburgh ends Atlanta's winning streak in a contest that featured a little bit of everything. What a game for Pittsburgh.

3 Stars of the Game:

1. Evgeni Malkin
2. Sergei Gonchar
3. Sidney Crosby

10:01 PM: Malkin gets his first career penalty shot opportunity and the chance to net a hat trick, but Hedberg made the save with his blocker.

9:58 PM: Pittsburgh gets one more power play chance with just under four minutes on the clock. The penalty tally for tonight's game is really adding up.

9:55 PM: The crowd cheers when the jumbotron reveals that Detroit is leading Philadelphia, 3-2, in the third period. The atmosphere here is electric as the Pens and Thrashers get into a tussle behind the Penguins net.

9:37 PM: Mark Eaton and Gonchar got a two-on-one as Eaton skated back onto the ice at the end of his penalty. Gonchar passed the puck across the slot to Eaton who put it in the net for his third goal of the season and Gonchar's fourth point of the night. Penguins 6, Thrashers 2.

9:25 PM: The Third period begins. Just for the record, Atlanta is 5-26-3 when trailing after two periods this season.

9:08 PM: What a period for the Penguins! The Penguins outshot the Thrashers, 28-14, in the frame and increased their lead to 5-2. The Penguins are 19-3-5 when leading after two periods this season.

8:57 PM: The Thrashers score as Eric Boulton banks the puck off of Mark Eaton and into the net. Penguins 5, Thrashers 2.

8:56 PM: The crowd chants "Geno! Geno! Geno!" as the potent forward scores his 100th point of the season and his second power-play goal of the game. Penguins 5, Thrashers 1.

8:54 PM: The Penguins score another power-play goal. Malkin converted the point. Penguins 4, Thrahsers 1.

8:37 PM: Jordan Staal nets a beautiful goal from the slot. Letang pinched in along the near boards and passed the puck to Kennedy at the bottom of the near circle. Kennedy quickly sent to puck to Staal who one-timed it into the net. Penguins 3, Thrashers 1.

8:33 PM: It's time for the second period to begin and we'll see if the Pens can outshoot the Thrashers again.

8:16 PM: That's the end of the first period, and it looks like the Penguins power play is really shaping up. The Penguins outshot the Thrashers, 14-10, in the period.

8:14 PM: Chris Kunitz bats in a loose puck for his 22 goal of the season. The goal was scored on a power play opportunity. Penguins 2, Thrashers 1.

7:54 PM: The Penguins convert on a five-on-three advantage to tie the score at 1-1. Sergei Gonchar hammers a slap shot into the upper right corner for the point. Penguins 1, Thrashers 1.

7:39 PM: Bryan Little nets an early goal for Atlanta. Thrashers 1, Penguins 0.

7:33 PM: Tonight the Penguins go head-to-head with one of the hottest teams in the league - the Atlanta Thrashers. In the past 10 games the Penguins have the best record in the league at 8-0-2 while the Thrashers have the second best record, 8-2-0.

Marc-Andre Fleury is back between the pipes for the Pens after taking a one-game break. Forward Craig Adams is the only scratch for the Penguins tonight.

Former Penguin Johan Hedberg is in net for Atlanta. This is the first time Hedberg is taking the ice at the Mellon Arena since he played here as a Penguin (he has been here 3 other times but didn't start). Scratches for Atlanta are forwards Ilya Kovalchuk and Jim Slater and defenseman Ron Hainsey.
