9:57 PM: The Penguins net five goals in the third period to surpass their Atlantic Division rivals, the New York Rangers. The final score of the game:

Penguins 6, Rangers 2.

The Three Stars of the game:

1. Kris Letang
2. Sidney Crosby
3. Petr Sykora

9:53 PM: Crosby adds a goal to his two assists in the game on a backhand shot from the far circle which he rocketed past Lundqvist's glove side. The teams were playing four-on-four at the time of Crosby's goal.

Penguins 6, Rangers 2.

9:52 PM: The Buffalo game is tied at 2-2 in the second period.

9:47 PM: Letang shows the Ranger's whose house they're in with his second goal of the game. Malkin passed the puck out to Letang who skated through the Rangers' defense and sent a wrist shot past Lundqvist from the slot.

Penguins 5, Rangers 2.

9:44 PM: The Rangers answer the Penguins point rally with a goal of their own. Scott Gomez sent the puck over to defenseman Marc Stall, who pinched into the Penguins zone and wristed the puck past Fleury.

Penguins 4, Rangers 2.

9:43 PM: The Mellon Arena crowd taunt the Rangers with a "Lundqvist" chant and a "Go Home Rangers."

9:59 PM: Sykora nets his second goal of the game on the five-on-three man advantage. From the far corner, Crosby put the puck right on the tape of Sykora's stick. Sykora pounded it in before Lundqvist had a chance to respond.

Penguins 4, Rangers 1.

9:34 PM: The Pens get a five-on-three man advantage for 53 seconds after New York's Dmitri Kalinin sent the puck out of play.

9:32 PM: The Ranger's defense takes Malkin down on a breakaway. Wade Redden goes to the box for a two-minute hooking minor.

9:28 PM: Letang scores his second goal of the season. Crosby sent Letang a cross-ice pass to the point and Letang burried a wrist shot over Lundqvist's left shoulder from the top of the near circle.

Penguins 3, Rangers 1.

9:20 PM: Jordan Staal camped out behind the Rangers' net and banked a puck off of Lundqvist's stick and into the net for the Penguins' second goal of the game. He was assisted by Ryan Whitney on the point. 

9:02 PM: The score is still tied, 1-1, after two periods of play.

8:57 PM: Fleury makes a spectacular save in the Penguins end and the Pens carry the puck into the Rangers zone. Crosby camps out behind the Rangers net and sets up several scoring chances which Lundqvist is able to bat away.

8:54 PM: Buffalo is down 1-0 in the first period against the Calgary Flames. In the Eastern Conference Standings the Penguins trail five points behind Buffalo.

8:30 PM: Pascal Dupuis opens the second period with a shot from the point which Lundqvist deflects.

8:11 PM: The First periods ends in a 1-1 tie. The Penguins outshot the Rangers 9-8 in the period.

7:58 PM: The Jumbotron just aired a compilation video of Evgeni Malkin's weekend at the All-Star Game. They showed Malkin win the accuracy shooting contest, his staged assistance to Alex Ovechkin and his sweet, between the legs goal in the game. 

7:48 PM: The Penguins tie the game thanks to Petr Sykora. The Czech native batted a puck out of mid-air twice and into the goal to net his 18th score of the season. Chris Minard started the play with a bad-angle shot from along the goal line. The puck deflected into the air and bounced near Sykora. His first whack knocked the puck into the air and Sykora's second nailed it into the net.

Penguins 1, Rangers 1.

7:43 PM: The Rangers get on the board first on Nikolai Zherdev's 13 goal of the season. Ryan Whitney fell down while skating backwards, creating a two-on-one for New York. Brandon Dubinsky skated hard to the net and Zherdev coasted to the high slot before unleashing a shot past Marc-Andre Fleury stick side. 

Rangers 1, Penguins 0.

7:38 PM: Three seconds into the game, Colton Orr and Eric Godard fight at center ice to set the tone for the game.

7:37 PM: Marc-Andre Fleury is starting in net for the Penguins. Despite the wintry conditions outside, Mellon Arena is pretty packed.

7:34 PM: The Penguins are ready to face off against Atlantic rival New York Rangers. The Penguins were victorious in the two teams' last meeting on on Jan. 18, shutting out the Blueshirts for a  3-0 win.

Sidney Crosby will be in the lineup for Pittsburgh after resting his injured knee over the All-Star break. The Penguins are starting to get healthier as Pascal Dupuis and Maxime Talbot also return to action. 

The Penguins scratches tonight are defenseman Alex Goligoski and Brooks Orpik. Matt Cooke is serving the first game of his two-game suspension.

Scratches for the Rangers are forwards Ryan Callahan and Dan Fritsche.
