Pens vs. Flyers Game 3 Live Game Blog

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins representatives will be providing a live-game blog during Penguins' playoff games this season. Check back for updates, injury reports and information throughout the game.

5:48 PM: The final buzzer sounds and the Penguins fall to the Flyers, 6-3, but still lead in the series 2-1.

5:44 PM: Gagne launches a puck down the ice from the neutral zone to tack on an empty-net goal for the Flyers. Flyers 6, Penguins 3.

5:27 PM: The Penguins convert on the power-play advantage. Malkin wristed a shot from the top of the near circle which beat Biron for the point. Flyers 5, Penguins 3.

5:23 PM: Briere high-sticks Orpik and receives a four-minute double-minor penalty. The game will be four-on-four for one minute and then the Penguins will get a three-minute man-advantage.

5:17 PM: The Flyers tack on another goal. Jared Ross collects a rebound in front of the net and tucks it between Fleury's left arm pad and leg pad for the point. Flyers 5, Penguins 2.

5:13 PM: The third period starts and the Penguins get off two shots in the opening shift.

4:56 PM: The second period ends with the Pens trailing by two goals.

4:54 PM: Biron stops a great Penguins' scoring chance. Crosby passed the puck to Sykora, who snapped a quick shot on Biron, but the goalie was able to slide across the crease and make the save.

4:34 PM: The Flyers net a short-handed goal with the help of Claude Giroux. Giroux skated the puck around the Penguins' net and passed it across the crease onto the stick of Simon Gagne. Gagne tapped it in for the point. Flyers 4, Penguins 2.

4:25 PM: Giroux knocks in a rebound to put the Flyers in the lead again. Flyers 3, Penguins 2.

4:19 PM: The second period begins and Pittsburgh ties it up 13 seconds into the period. Crosby carried the puck into the Flyers' zone and passed it to Scuderi at the point. Guerin did a great job of screening the play and Scuderi launched a shot to the back of the net. Penguins 2, Flyers 2.

4:05 PM: The first period concludes with the Penguins outshooting the Flyers, 11-7, but trailing by one point.

4:01 PM: Good News! With 12 seconds left in the first period, the Penguins cut the Flyers' lead in half with an incredible goal from the leading scorer in the playoffs - Evgeni Malkin! Fedotenko chased a puck into the corner and dished it through the slot, past two Flyers' defenseman, and onto Malkin's stick. Malkin launched a shot into the net before Biron could get across the crease. Flyers 2, Penguins 1.

3:51 PM: The Penguins kill off a cross checking penalty Cooke received, thanks to a great blocked shot by Dupuis. He skated across the slot and dove in the path of a slap shot from the far point to deflect the puck out of the Penguins end.

3:43 PM: The Flyers penalty box is seriously packed. Carter is literally sitting on the floor because they have four players in the box, plus an NHL official. The Penguins are unable to convert on the power-play chance.

3:33 PM: This game is getting extremely chippy. First, Kunitz crunched an unsuspecting Timonen behind the Flyers net and at the last stoppage, there was a giant scrum with a lot of punches being thrown. Kennedy and Giroux managed a short bout before the referees broke up the scrum. The penalty boxes are full for both teams and the Penguins wind up with a two-minute man-advantage.

3:29 PM: The Flyers convert a power-play opportunity to up their lead to 2-0. Flyers 2, Penguins 0.

3:24 PM: The Flyers net an early lead. Lupul dropped the puck to Carter in the high slot. Carter released a shot from the near faceoff dot. Flyers 1, Penguins 0.

3:21 PM: The Puck drops and the action begins. The Philadelphia crowd chants "Crosby Sucks," but luckily this only motivates him to play even harder (if that's possible).

3:14 PM: The Penguins have again opted to scratch forwards Eric Godard, Miroslav Satan and defenseman Philippe Boucher. Scratches for Philadelphia are defenseman Luca Sbisa and forward Riley Cote.

3:07 PM: Game 3 is here and the Penguins are ready to take on the Philadelphia Flyers in another intense Keystone State playoff tilt. The Penguins lead the series, 2-0, so far.
