9:59 PM: Fleury manages to cover a backdoor shot from Staal. That was a close call.
9:58 PM: The Canes pull Ward for an extra attacker.
9:56 PM: Corvo fires a shot past Fleury, who was using Scuderi's stick because his own stick was knocked out of the way. Penguins 3, Hurricanes 2.
9:55 PM: Staal muscles the puck out of the Penguins' end.
9:53 PM: Orpik knocks Kaberle off of his feet but receives a minor penalty on the hit and the Pens go on the penalty kill.
9:49 PM: Fleury makes a stick save on Seidenberg. Shots favor the Pens, 10-1, in the period so far.
9:47 PM: Boucher nets a power-play tally. He releases a shot that trickles through Ward's five-hole for the point. Penguins 3, Hurricanes 0.
9:46 PM: Malkin's one-timed shot bounces off of a defender.
9:44 PM: Gonchar rockets a shot that bounces off of a player and forces Ward to make a glove save on the odd bounce.
9:43 PM: Adams makes a hit in the Hurricanes' end to keep the play alive for Pittsburgh. Cullen attempts to clear the puck but it goes over the glass and Cullen receives a delay of game penalty.
9:39 PM: Kennedy carries the puck into the goal line and releases a shot on Ward but is stopped. When the play comes to a stop Cole looks hurt and the trainer helps him to the bench.
9:38 PM: Malkin manages a breakaway but is stopped by Ward.
9:34 PM: Crosby attempts a backhand shot from behind the net but Ward hugs the post and keeps the puck out.
9:32 PM: Fleury covers a Cole shot.
9:31 PM: Crosby, Guerin and Kuntz manage a shot and a scoring chance before Carolina clears the puck out of the zone.
9:30 PM: Orpik knocks LaRose off of the puck in the Penguins' end.
9:28 PM: Gill wrists a shot from above the far circle but is prevented by Ward.
9:27 PM: Talbot shoots a puck through the crease but no one is able to tip it in.
9:26 PM: The third period begins.
9:07 PM: The second period concludes. The Penguins manage to outshoot the Hurricanes, 12-6, in the second period but allow one goal. It should be an interesting third period.
9:01 PM: The Hurricanes nearly tie the game at two, but their second goal is dissallowed due to goaltender interference.
8:57 PM: Cole changed directions as he skated the puck into the Penguins' zone and dropped a pass to LaRose in the slot. LaRose was able to whip a shot through Fleury's five-hole to help Carolina cut the Penguins' lead in half. Penguins 2, Hurricanes 1.
8:54 PM: Fleury earns his very own chant from the Mellon Arena crowd as he uses his leg pad to make a spectacular save on a Samsonov shot.
8:51 PM: Shots favor the Penguins, 7-4, so far in the second period with just under ten minutes left to play in the frame.
8:44 PM: By the way, Ruutu skated gingerly off the ice during his last shift and he has yet to return to the ice but he is still on the bench. We'll see if he returns to the action.
8:40 PM: Crosby set up Guerin with a perfect pass in the slot but Ward made an insane diving glove save to keep the duo from scoring.
8:33 PM: The second period begins.
8:15 PM: The first period expires. The Penguins manage a two-goal lead despite being outshot, 12-9, by the Hurricanes in the first period.
8:09 PM: Fleury denies LaRose's backhand shot with his blocker.
7:59 PM: Malkin nets a backhand shot from the slot to up the Penguins' lead just 84 seconds after Satan's tally. Penguins 2, Hurricanes 0.
7:56 PM: Satan collects the puck just after vacating the penalty box and he skates into Carolina's zone on a breakaway. He dekes Ward and nets a backhand shot for the point. Penguins 1, Hurricanes 0.
7:54 PM: At the other end of the ice Carolina goes on the power play and Fleury gloves down a Carolina scoring chance from in front of the net to keep the score at 0-0.
7:51 PM: A second power-play chance expires before the Penguins can convert, but they do manage a couple of great scoring chances during the pair of power plays including a wrist shot from Letang and another from Malkin however Ward proves solid in net.
7:47 PM: The power-play expires to no avail for the Penguins.
7:45 PM: The Penguins get a power-play opportunity as Eric Staal goes to the box for a minor penalty.
7:41 PM: The puck drops and the game begins.
