Game Summary

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will be in the lineup tonight as the Penguins open their pre-season schedule against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Mellon Arena. Game time is 7:30. Tickets are available at the Mellon Arena Gate One Box Office.

No. 1 overall draft pick Steven Stamkos will make his debut in a Tampa Bay uniform.
This is the first of four pre-season games in a span of seven days for the Penguins, who reduced their roster to 42 players Friday.

"Exhibition games are all about timing and chemistry for veteran players," Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. "And they represent having a chance for your  younger players."

Crosby, Satan to team up

Miroslav Satan will make his first appearance in a Penguins uniform tonight, and he is expected to be in an esteemed place - at right wing on a line with Crosby. Satan was signed as a free agent in the off-season after playing for the New York Islanders.

Also making their first appearances in a Penguins uniform will be Pittsburgh area native Bill Thomas (Fox Chapel) and free-agent signees Janne Pesonen and Eric Godard. Pesonen will be making his North American debut after starring in recent seasons in the Finland Elite League.

Other forwards skating tonight for the Penguins will be Jordan Staal, Pascal Dupuis, Petr Sykora, Kris Beech, Ryan Stone and Jeff Taffe. Defensemen will be Sergei Gonchar, Brooks Orpik, Mark Eaton, Darryl Sydor, Alex Goligoski and Ben Lovejoy.

Marc-Andre Fleury and Dany Sabourin will be the goaltenders.

Therrien coaching through pain

Michel Therrien said he suffered two broken ribs when he was inadvertantly involved in a collision at practice Thursday.  But he'll be coaching tonight.

"It's painful - I've had better days," he said with a smile during his pre-game session with the media. "I feel like I'm in the playoffs."
