The Pittsburgh Penguins sponsored their 15th annual “Score Against Hunger” food drive on Wednesday when the Penguins met the Philadelphia Flyers at Mellon Arena.
Every fan who brought a non-perishable food item to the game, or made a cash donation that evening, was eligible to win autographed Penguins’ memorabilia.
All food and money collected was donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for distribution to needy people in the Pittsburgh area. Fans were encouraged to participate in the food drive since the need to assist hungry people in the area has increased tremendously in the past year.
Penguins’ “Score Against Hunger” food drives have collected over 18,700 pounds of food and $14,600 in donations since 1992.
