The Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to announce that Adam Pilewicz of Quaker Valley, Tyler Gerhold of South Park, Brett Berner of North Hills and Paul Maust of Mars are the Highmark PIHL Players of the Month for October 2014.
The Penguins, along with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, honor four high school hockey players each month for their commitment on and off the ice.
The South Park Eagles have senior forward Tyler Gerhold to thank for their 4-1 start last month. Gerhold had nine goals and seven assists as well as a four-goal, three-goal and two-goal game in October.
“It’s a great award to receive,” Gerhold said. “I want to thank my coaches for nominating me for this award. I definitely couldn’t have done this without my teammates. They definitely helped put me out in the spotlight.”
North Hills senior forward Brett Berner – now a four-year captain – knotted four goals and eight assists while leading the PIHL’s AA division in scoring through the first four games of October, which gave his club a 3-1 start. He was also player of the month back in February of last season.
“It means a lot,” Berner said. “It means a lot to my family and my coaches for nominating me. It also means a lot for my senior year. It’s nice to have it and I’ll remember it forever.”
Senior forward Adam Pilewicz of the Quaker Valley Quakers recorded 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points through six games over the course of October. He had two hat tricks as well as four multi-goal games.
To finish the month, sophomore forward Paul Maust of the Mars Fighting Planets tallied eight goals and five assists for 13 points. He averaged 3.25 points per game through four games in October.
