Penguins Wives & Girlfriends Team Up with Giant Eagle to Collect Diapers

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Giant Eagle will team up today at CONSOL Energy Center to collect diapers for the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank.

One in three families in America struggle to afford diapers for their children and not all social assistance programs for low-income families cover the cost of diapers. Babies need between 6 - 10 diapers each day and an adequate supply of diapers can cost more than $100 each month per baby for families that are already struggling. Without a clean diaper available, some babies can spend a day or longer in one diaper, leading to potential health and abuse risks.

The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank helps to bridge the “diaper gap” – a lack of a sufficient supply of disposable diapers to ensure babies remain clean, dry and healthy – by providing diapers for babies of families who are most in need.

On March 30, wives and girlfriends of Pittsburgh Penguins players and coaches will accept donations of diapers and cash at the American Eagle gate, Trib Total Media gate and Verizon gate of CONSOL Energy Center before the Penguins-Blackhawks game. Fans who make a donation at CONSOL Energy Center will receive 15 PensPoints and an opportunity to win autographed Pens memorabilia. Each PensPoints card must be redeemed within 48 hours of the Pittsburgh Penguins Diaper Drive sponsored by Giant Eagle and only one per account will be accepted.

All donations will help the W PA Diaper Bank continue its mission to help babies and we encourage each fan to provide an assist for the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community – our children.
