The Pittsburgh Penguins will open their training camp for the 2007-08 season on Thursday.
The first day will be for physicals, testing, and meetings at the UPMC facility on the South Side. The first on-ice practice session will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the ICEOPLEX at Southpointe.
The Penguins will remain at Southpointe through Sept. 16 before hitting the road for two preseason games and then moving camp to Mellon Arena. All practices at the ICEOPLEX at Southpointe will be open to the public and free of charge; in addition, practices on Sept. 19, 20, and 27 at Mellon Arena are also free and open to the public. The Penguins will make a return trip to West Point for on-ice, off-ice training sessions and team building exercises from Sept. 24-26.
The Penguins will open the preseason schedule in Montreal with two contests on Monday, Sept. 17, and Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Penguins will also visit Detroit on Friday, Sept. 21, before returning home to play their first home preseason game vs. Detroit on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The club will round out the preseason skating against the Buffalo Sabres in a home-and-home series, beginning in Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 28, in Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. and concluding on Saturday, Sept. 29, in Buffalo.
The Penguins open the 2007-08 regular season in Carolina on Friday, Oct. 5, before returning to Mellon Arena for the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 6, vs. the defending Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks.
