Penguins to Honor Military Veterans With Special Veterans Day Activities Friday

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins will proudly honor our military veterans with a full day of special Veterans Day activities on Friday at CONSOL Energy Center. The Pens host the Dallas Stars Friday at 7 p.m.

Among the “Support Our Heroes” activities scheduled on 11-11-11 are:
  • The Penguins will host 12 wounded veterans at their 10:30 a.m. morning skate. They are representatives of the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Troop Appreciation and the Veterans’ Administration. Each veteran will receive an individualized Penguins jersey from a Penguins player before the morning skate, then watch the skate from Suite 66. Afterward, they will have a photo opportunity.
  • Penguins players will wear special camouflage jerseys to honor the veterans and current troops during their pre-game warmup Friday night. The players will then autograph the jerseys and they will be auctioned on, with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project and Operation Troop Appreciation.
  • All fans attending Friday’s game will receive an American Flag Foundation wristband, presented by PNC.
  • Members of the ROTC will be at each entry gate to collect for the “Support Our Heroes” program.
  • Military veterans will take part in Zamboni rides before the game and during intermissions.
  • Among the special guests will be military members hosted in charity suites purchased by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
  • ROOT Sports will incorporate many elements honoring veterans into their broadcast.
  • All veterans will receive a 20 percent discount at the PensGear store on both Friday and Saturday.
