Penguins to Hold First Training Camp Practice on September 18 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex

The Pittsburgh Penguins will hold their first training camp practice on Friday, September 18 beginning at 9 a.m. at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, it was announced today by general manager Jim Rutherford.

Head coach Mike Johnston's club will be on the ice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex every day during camp’s opening weekend, with each session beginning at 9 a.m.

Guidelines for fans wishing to attend the first three days are below. There is limited seating and parking capacity at the new facility.

Complete training camp information, including a final roster, will be released early next week.

This year the Penguins will play eight exhibition games beginning on September 21 with a visit to Columbus at 7 p.m.

The next night Pittsburgh plays its first home preseason game when it hosts the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Center.

For the fifth-straight year the Penguins will host a 'Free Game for Kids' on Saturday, September 26 at 4 p.m. against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Over 18,000 tickets for that game will be distributed to young people of the region, as well as parents of younger children and chaperones for youth hockey teams and other kids’ groups.

Pittsburgh plays its final home preseason contest September 30 against Detroit at 7 p.m.

Two highlights of the exhibition slate are a visit to Quebec for a neutral-site contest against the Montreal Canadiens on September 28 in the first-ever hockey game at the Videotron Centre; then the following night the Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning square off in the Kraft Hockeyville USA game in Johnstown's historic War Memorial Arena.

The Kraft Hockeyville USA matchup between the Penguins and Lightning begins at 7 p.m. and it will be nationally broadcast by NBC Sports Network.

Pittsburgh Penguins’ training camp opens the weekend of September 18-20 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. However, because of limited seating and parking capacity, the Penguins are asking fans who would like to attend camp on these three days to fill out the entry form in the link below. Winners chosen at random will receive e-mail confirmations, which must be printed and presented at the door. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, September 14. Winners will be notified via e-mail by 5 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, September 16.

ONLY FANS WHO RECEIVE EMAIL CONFIRMATION will be able to enter the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex during the opening weekend of camp. You must bring your printed e-mail confirmation with you.

Starting on Monday, September 21, all training camp and practice sessions held at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex will be open to the general public.
