Penguins Unveil New Third Jerseys

by Pittsburgh Penguins @penguins / Media Release

The Pittsburgh Penguins today unveiled their new third jerseys, featuring a dynamic gold background with black sleeves and white and gold striping.

The new "thirds," created by adidas, will be worn for the first time on Thursday, November 15, when the Penguins take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at PPG Paints Arena.

They also will go on sale for the first time on November 15 and will be available exclusively at PensGear stores for a five-day period from November 15-19.

After that they will be available at DICK'S Sporting Goods stores, shop.nhl.com, adidas.com and adidas.ca - in addition to the PensGear locations at PPG Paints Arena, SouthSide Works, and the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

The new design incorporates elements from the popular 2017 Stadium Series uniform while acknowledging the heritage of gold jerseys worn by Mario Lemieux and the Penguins in the 1980s.

From adidas:

"Creating a signature look for these new thirds, the crest spotlights the standalone skating penguin on a single-toned gold sweater. Mixing the past with the present, the contrasting black sleeves are highlighted with white and gold striping that are inspired from the Penguins' 1984 jerseys, while the letters and numbering mirror the current home and away jerseys. Additional design details include the sleeve numbers being raised to the shoulder of the jersey to mimic the 1980s look.

"At the forefront of innovation, design and craftsmanship, the adidas adizero Authentic NHL jersey takes the hockey jersey silhouette to the next level by redefining fit, feel and lightweight construction. The adidas adizero Authentic jersey is lighter, cooler and stronger, featuring adizero lightweight cresting and twill numbers, adidas Clima technology and Aeroknit detailing, the platinum NHL shield and an interior fight strap."

The Penguins will wear the new "thirds" 12 times during the 2018-19 season - all at PPG Paints Arena. A complete list of those games can be found here.

The Penguins also will wear gold helmets with the new "thirds."
