Members of the Pittsburgh Penguins front office staff visited with residents at Harmer Village in Cheswick on December 21, 2011; delivering Christmas gifts as part of the organization’s annual “Operation Shoebox” program.
The “Operation Shoebox” program was introduced to the Penguins’ organization years ago by the team’s first general manager Jack Riley. The program was designed to brighten the holidays for seniors residing in assisted living facilities.
Penguins’ staff members delivered decorated shoebox gifts to 51 Harmer Village residents as they visited individual rooms and activity centers at the facility.
Smiles were plenty as the seniors opened the Christmas presents and chatted with Penguins’ staffers. Needless to say, a great time was had by all!
